Brief Introduction
A brushed dc motor is a type of DC motor. A fixed main magnetic pole and brushes are installed on the stator of the brushed motor, and an armature winding and a commutator are installed on the rotor. The electric energy of the DC power supply enters the armature winding through the brush and the commutator to generate the armature current. The magnetic field generated by the armature current interacts with the main magnetic field to generate electromagnetic torque, which makes the motor rotate to drive the load.
Permanent Magnet Brushed DC (PMDC) motors are the most common BDC motors in the world. This type of motor uses permanent magnets to generate the stator magnetic field. PMDC motors are often used in applications including fractional horsepower motors because permanent magnets are more cost-effective than wound stators. The disadvantage of PMDC motors is that the magnetism of the permanent magnets gradually decays over time. Some PMDC motors also have windings around the permanent magnets to prevent loss of magnetism. The linearity of the performance curve (voltage versus speed) of the PMDC motor is very good. Current and torque have a linear relationship. Since the stator magnetic field is constant, this type of motor responds very quickly to voltage changes.
